A rebuilt home needs more than walls. Stormwater has to reach a legal discharge point, the sewer junction may need renewing, the electrical connection often comes back underground, and the driveway crossing must meet council's civil standards. These works bracket the build at both ends.

Timing
When it's needed
Some connection work precedes demolition, abolishing the old supply, while the rest lands late in construction. Treating connections as an afterthought is a classic source of handover delay, because utility and authority bookings carry their own queues.
Never enter a demolition site or a partially demolished structure, and never disturb materials you suspect contain asbestos, assessment and removal belong to appropriately licensed contractors. Keep children and pets clear of site fencing, and report damaged hoarding or exposed hazards to the site contact immediately.

Residential building work in NSW above the licensing threshold must be carried out by the holder of a current contractor licence issued by NSW Fair Trading, and contracts above the insurance threshold require home building compensation cover to be in place before deposits are taken. Check any licence number against the public register and ask to see the insurance certificate before signing.
